AI Chatbot Updates: The Evolution of OpenAI's ChatGPT and Microsoft's Bing Chat

Published on 21 May 2023 at 15:55

In the latest AI news, OpenAI's ChatGPT and Microsoft's Bing Chat are making significant strides in mobile integration.

OpenAI recently launched an official [ChatGPT app for iOS] providing users with mobile access to their popular AI chatbot. The app, which was initially only available in the U.S., is now set to expand to other markets. It comes with voice input capabilities via Whisper and will be ad-free. An Android version of the app is also on the horizon. As a free-to-use app, this official release could help eliminate the need for dubious, unofficial ChatGPT services that have plagued the App Store. For those wanting additional features such as faster response times or access to GPT-4, an upgrade to ChatGPT Plus subscription is available.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is enhancing the AI capabilities of [Bing Chat across its suite of mobile apps] The updates include chat history on both desktop and mobile, an iOS or Android Home Screen widget for faster access, and the ability to start a chat on desktop and continue on a smartphone. The voice input feature will also support more languages and countries. Interestingly, Bing Chat is also being added to the mobile version of Microsoft's Edge browser app, which will allow users to ask questions related to the website they're viewing. Other apps like the SwiftKey keyboard app will gain the ability to compose text based on user-specified parameters. Finally, Skype users can now use Bing in their group chats.

The AI developments at Microsoft and OpenAI have come at a time when interest in AI-powered chatbots is growing. These updates are expected to impact the wider AI chatbot market, potentially steering consumers away from traditional voice assistants like Siri and Google Assistant and towards these more sophisticated AI chatbots.

While Google has yet to announce similar updates, it recently opened up access to its AI chatbot, Bard, and has been testing AI features through Search Labs. The pace at which these developments are taking place indicates the rapid growth and interest in AI technologies, and it will be interesting to see how this will shape the future of mobile app integration.

I'm still gathering more information to provide a comprehensive view of the latest breakthroughs in AI. Please hold on for the next update.
